High Protein Bars

For almost 20 years high protein bars and high protein shakes, drinks and supplements have been available. They go by the names of energy bars, meal replacement bars, diet bars, high protein bars or high carbohydrate bars and have a tendency to be heavier than most granola or snack bars offered on the shelves today.

 

10 g to 20 g of protein in each bar is not uncommon, but you cannot live on energy bars alone. It's important to have a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise and use these nutrition bars as a way to supplement an already good diet. Eating one of these supplemental nutrition bars within the first two hours after a workout can help maintain muscle mass and replace lost nutrition.

Nutrition bars make a great supplemental protein for busy days and evenings, but it's important to read the ingredients and make sure that you're not eating fructose corn syrup as the first ingredient instead of protein or good fiber and carbohydrates. Protein is one of the building blocks to healthy muscles, cartilage, skin, blood and bones, and a protein bar is a good way to enhance a regularly healthy diet.

The protein in nutrition bars comes from many sources, but whey protein is one of the purest and highest quality proteins available. It's often used in quality nutrition bars because of its essential amino acids, immune boosting abilities, and new research has found that it can also help fight cancer and assist in chemotherapy.

In today's busy world, it's hard to eat a complete diet and take the time to eat four to five complete small meals on a daily basis. Protein bars, carbohydrate bars and nutritional bars can supplement an otherwise healthy lifestyle. It's important to speak with your doctor before you start any new diet or exercise regime and mention that you would like to be able to use protein or nutrition bars to supplement your diet. It's also important to drink at least 16 ounces of water or electrolyte balanced drink after eating a nutrition bar to help supplement absorption.

Protein bars store easily and conveniently but you don't want them to get too hot because they often contain chocolate. Other than that, shoving a protein bar or nutritional supplement bar into your purse, briefcase, diaper bag or sports bag is a great way to supplement a healthy lifestyle and increase your energy. It's important when trying supplement bars that you pay attention for the first half hour after eating to find out if you are genuinely energized or more fatigued. Different nutritional bars and supplements will affect different people and paying attention to your own body's response is the best way to find one that works for you.
